NUMERICAL SOLUTION OF SOME SELECTED RLC CIRCUITS

ABSTRACT
The paper examined some alternative numerical integration methods and their errors in the circuit transient analysis packages. We compared in term of accuracy and stability and employed the use of Trapezoidal, Fourth-order Runge-Kutta, Rosenbrock, and Adams-Moulton formulato determine the transients? response of circuit elements. Model equations which correspond to the sample circuits were programmed in Maple 17 software to generate transient responses. Most of the numerical methods experience instability when the time step is higher than the time constant of the circuit to be analyzed, while some techniques show stability and accuracy over a higher value of the time constant. We concluded that Rosenbrock method is the most reliable and efficient.
