ABSTRACT
Nigeria, with a population of about 170 million inhabitants is languishing in economic underdevelopment partly due to power generating capacity and inadequate supply of electricity. This paper looked into issues, merits, and demerits of Nuclear energy as it may affect Nigeria. Sustainability of Nuclear was discussed. The efforts of Nuclear Engineers/Scientists and various Committees constituted by Nigerian Government to look into Nuclear energy were acknowledged. The authors concluded that Nuclear energy should be carefully studied and put a hold on it until the country is more peaceful, mature enough to embark on such giant task. Solar and wind energies among other renewable and sustainable energies were recommended as immediate alternatives in Nigeria
